Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holder / Refresher Training

This qualification covers the role and responsibilities of a Personal Licence Holder in any premises licensed for the retail sale of alcohol. It is a one day course, delivered in Lerwick or other areas by arrangement.

All Personal Licence holders must complete refresher training within five years of the date that their licence was issued.

Price

  • Personal Licence Holder – £130pp, including course book, exam fee and SQA certification.
  • Refresher training – £65pp, including course book, exam fee and SQA certification.

Scottish Certificate for Safe Sale and Service of Alcohol

Price

  • Free if included as part of your Level 5 Hospitality SVQ.
  • If done as stand alone unit, it is £20pp

The Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS)

REHIS is primarily concerned with the health of Scotland’s people and as such, acts as the awarding body for a number of qualifications in Food Safety, Food and Health, Control of Infection and Occupational Health and Safety
Anyone who serves food to the public will probably need to have a food hygiene certificate.

  • The Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate – this is a one day course with a short test at the end. It is designed for people working in the hospitality / catering industry, who handle food every day. You can also do the course online.
  • The Intermediate Certificate in Food Hygiene – this is a four day course with an exam at the end. It is more suited to chefs or managers.

  • The Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate – free if included as part of your SVQ Hospitality Services / Supervision and Leadership.
  • If taken as a stand-alone unit, it is £60pp. This can be delivered to a group or you can do it yourself online.
  • The Intermediate Certificate in Food Hygiene – this can be done either in person or online with support from one of Blyde Welcome’s trainers. Price on application.

REHIS Elementary Cleaning and Disinfection

This course 4.5 hour course is for anyone involved in cleaning ether in a professional or voluntary capacity. Topics covered include the importance of systematic cleaning procedures, risk assessment, equipment and record keeping.

    Level 5/6 SVQs and Modern Apprenticeships – non-supervisory staff

    Kitchen Service L5

    This course is suitable for 16-24 year olds who are working in a kitchen, and possibly looking to progress on to commis chef in the future.

    Professional Cookery L5

    This course is suitable for commis chefs carrying out a range of supervised prep and cooking tasks in a commercial kitchen.

    Hospitality Service L5

    This course is suitable for 16-24 year olds in their first job as a receptionist, waiter, bar person, room attendant / housekeeper / domestic, carrying out supervised work in any of the above positions. It is very flexible and suitable for many job roles.

    Retail Sales / Management L6

    This course is suitable for 16-24 year olds with relevant experience in their job roles or in supervisory positions within any retail organisation. 

    Levels 7/8 SVQs and ModernApprenticeships – for supervisors and managers

    Professional Cookery L6

    This is suitable for 16-24 year chefs with at least one year kitchen experience, or who have completed Level 5.

    Hospitality Supervision and Leadership

    This is a very flexible course suitable for those with experience in the industry. It can be achieved in any department: kitchen, reception, housekeeping, bar / restaurant and is tailored to meet the needs of the individual.

    Hospitality Management L8

    This is an advanced qualification intended for owners/ managers in all areas of hospitality. It will be tailored to suit the candidate’s level of management responsibility and his/her job role. This is equivalent to second year university level and as such, requires some report writing.

    General Management L8/9

    This course is suitable for supervisors or managers but funding is limited. Employees from any sector would find this course beneficial and challenging.
